- There has been a lot of talk on this site and elsewhere that there are problems with the actual game of baseball at the moment, but Ted Berg writes that the problem with baseball is that the players are just too good.
- For example, Mike Trout. Sam Miller notes that so far in 2018, Trout is on pace to have the greatest season in baseball history, as measured by WAR. Yep, even better than Babe Ruth’s best year.
- Remember in Spring Training when some of you (and you know who you are—no need to call anyone out) thought that Shohei Ohtani was going to be a bust? Now he’s got an ERA of 3.58 and an OPS+ of 160. Ben Lindbergh writes that Ohtani’s ability to quickly make adjustments, both at the plate and on the mound, leaves opposing teams with no clue as to how to deal with him.
