Minor League Wrap: Swarmer pitches Smokies past Shuckers

The Smokies sail past the Shuckers. South Bend blows it big.

Congratulations to Erick Leal, who was your choice for the Minor League Pitcher of the Month. He was also the official Cubs selection and it was a pretty easy choice, although a few other pitchers had great months too.

Tennessee Smokies

The Tennessee Smokies cracked the Biloxi Shuckers (Brewers) 6-1.

Matt Swarmer was terrific tonight as he got his third Smokies win and eighth win of the season. Swarmer gave up just one unearned run on six hits over six innings. Swarmer struck out seven and did not walk anyone.

The one run scored on a home run to lead off the top of the first by Corey Ray after third baseman Jesse Hodges dropped a foul pop.

Second baseman Vimael Machin gave the Smokies the lead in the bottom of the first inning with a two-run home run, his seventh of the season and fifth for Tennessee. Machin was 2 for 4 and scored twice.
