Despite hitting four home runs, the Iowa Cubs were frosted off by the New Orleans Baby Cakes (Marlins), 7-6.
Starting pitcher Alec Mills allowed seven runs on eight hits, including two home runs, over 4.1 innings. Mills walked two and struck out three.
Third baseman Jason Vosler gave the I-Cubs an early lead with a two-run home run in the top of the first inning. It was Vosler’s seventh home run for Iowa and 19th overall. Vosler was 1 for 4.
Iowa retook a 3-2 lead in the top of the fourth inning when shortstop Ryan Court connected for a solo home run, his 11th this year. Court went 1 for 2 with two walks and two runs scored.
Two batters later, right fielder Mark Zagunis tacked on another run with his seventh blast on the season. Zagunis went 2 for 4 and scored twice.
Catcher Taylor Davis got the I-Cubs to within a run with a two-run home run in the top of the ninth. Davis went 2 for 3 with a walk. It was his fourth home run this year.
