Minor League Wrap: South Bend stops Captains

South Bend is the only winner.

Iowa Cubs

The Iowa Cubs got derailed by the Round Rock Express (Rangers), 4-2.

The I-Cubs wasted a good start by Alec Mills, who allowed just one run on four hits over five innings. Mills struck out five and walked just one.

Dillon Maples entered the game in the top of the ninth with the score tied 2-2 and he gave up two runs on three hits to take the loss. Maples did not walk anyone (that’s positive!) and he did not strike anyone out.

Second baseman Chesny Young was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI single.

Third baseman Ryan Court was 2 for 5 with a double.

Tennessee Smokies

The Tennessee Smokies couldn’t hide from the Chattanooga Lookouts (Twins), 11-3.

Oscar De La Cruz started and took the loss. He kept the Lookouts off the board for the first four innings, but the Lookouts exploded for four runs in the fifth. De La Cruz allowed four runs on four hits over 4.1 innings. He struck out four and walked three.
