Short, Baez and Vosler power Tennessee past the Barons

Congratulations to Iowa Cubs pitcher Adbert Alzolay, who is your choice for the BCB Cubs Minor League Pitcher of the Month. It was a close vote, with Alzolay beating South Bend’s Javier Assad by just two votes.

Iowa Cubs

The Iowa Cubs were soaked by the Omaha Storm Chasers (Royals), 6-4.

Starter Michael Roth went 4.1 innings and allowed three runs on eight hits. Roth walked one and struck out one.

Anthony Bass pitched the next 2.2 innings and got the loss. He gave up a two runs on a two-run home run in the sixth by Adalberto Mondesi. Bass gave up two total hits. He struck out two and did not walk anyone.

Three of Iowa’s four runs came on a fifth-inning home run by Ryan Court, his third this season. Court was 2 for 5.

Shortstop David Bote was 2 for 4 with a double and a walk. Right fielder Bijan Rademacher was 2 for 4.

Tennessee Smokies

The Tennessee Smokies usurped the Birmingham Barons (White Sox), 8-5.
