Iowa is in a groove and strong pitching propels the Smokies to another win.
The Iowa Cubs calmed the Omaha Storm Chasers (Royals), 8-4 in Iowa’s fourth-straight win. That’s impressive considering they’ve only won nine games so far this year.
It was a terrific start tonight by Michael Roth, who allowed on one run on two hits over six innings. The one run came in the fifth inning without the benefit of a hit: leadoff walk, hit batsman, fly out sent the runner to third and then a wild pitch. Roth struck out five, walked one but he hit two batters.
Zach Hedges was promoted to Iowa before tonight’s game and he got a three-inning save, the first save of his career. Hedges did allow three runs, two earned, on four hits. He walked one and struck out three.
First baseman Bijan Rademacher went 3 for 5 with a double. He scored one run
