Minor League Wrap: Hoerner returns to lineup as Ems down Hawks

Several 2018 draft picks, including first-round pick Hoerner, led the Emeralds to victory.

Iowa Cubs

The Iowa Cubs couldn’t hold a tune against the Nashville Sounds (Athletics), 4-1.

After a one hour and 12 minute rain delay, Duane Underwood Jr. started and took the loss. Underwood pitched five innings allowed four runs: two in the first and two in the fifth. (Underwood’s issues with the first inning and the third time through the order continue.) Underwood gave up five hits, he walked five and he struck out five.

Dillon Maples pitched the seventh inning. He walked three batters and he struck out three batters. No hits and no runs. Two of the strikeouts came after he loaded the bases with walks.

Iowa had four hits in this game, all singles. Second baseman Ryan Court went 1 for 3 with a walk and he scored the lone Iowa run.

Rained out in Jackson. Doubleheader on Saturday.
