It was the best start of the season for Jen-Ho Tseng, who allowed just two runs on four hits over seven innings. Tseng struck out none and walked just one.
The win, however, went to Cory Mazzoni. Mazzoni pitched two perfect innings, retiring all six batters and striking out two of them.
Freeman was 2 for 5 today and drove in all three runs. He also had a two-run single in the bottom of the seventh that tied up the score.
Hannemann was 2 for 4 and scored twice.
This was Iowa’s first win of the season in which their opponent scored the first run of the game.
The Tennessee Smokies lost to the Mississippi Braves, 7-4.
