Minor League Wrap: Cubs system keeps splitting

Two doubleheader splits in the system again today.

The Cubs promoted infielder Vimael Machin from Myrtle Beach to Tennessee today.

The Tennessee Smokies dropped their third-straight game, 8-6 to the Chattanooga Lookouts (Twins).

Starter Michael Rucker allowed four runs on six hits over five innings. One of the four runs was unearned. Rucker struck out two and walked one.

Daury Torrez relieved Rucker and pitched a perfect sixth inning. Then came the seventh inning when he allowed four runs and got the loss. The final line on Torrez was four runs on four hits and a walk over two innings. He struck out three.

Center fielder Charcer Burks had a big game, going 3 for 5 with two doubles and a two-run home run in the top of the third that opened up the scoring. Burks scored twice. He now has two home runs on the year.

Left fielder Jeffrey Baez went 2 for 5 with an RBI double that scored Burks. Baez scored twice.

Right fielder Eddy Martinez was 2 for 4 with an RBI double. Third baseman Jesse Hodges was 2 for 4 and scored once.
