Minor League Wrap: Bote leads I-Cubs to win in Colorado Springs

Wins for Iowa, Tennessee and South Bend.

We’re already two months into the season.

It’s nights like tonight that I don’t miss Eloy Jimenez.

Iowa Cubs

The Iowa Cubs summited the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (Brewers), 9-2.

Starter Alec Mills surrendered two runs, one earned, on two hits over 5.2 innings. He struck out nine and he walked three. He also hit one batter as he won his third game of the season.

With almost as many friends and family in the stands as his games at Coors Field, third baseman David Bote was 2 for 5 with an RBI double in the third inning. He was also hit by a pitch and he scored twice.

Catcher Victor Caratini went 2 for 5 with two runs batted in and he scored once.

Right fielder Mark Zagunis was 2 for 5 with an RBI and one run scored.

Shortstop Mike Freeman was 2 for 5 with two runs scored.

Tennessee Smokies

The Tennessee Smokies won game one of a doubleheader with the Mobile BayBears (Angels), 4-2. Game two of the doubleheader was rained out and will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Friday.
