Eloy Jimenez has been out of spring ball since last Tuesday, when he made a wild throw from left field in the bottom of the 9th inning that landed in the seats. He underwent an MRI and CT scan on Saturday and we were told that we’d see results on Sunday.
When the news Sunday turned into “team doctors want more time to evaluate the results,” it was time to start wondering if this would turn into something more serious for the Cubs’ top prospect.
We just learned via Carrie Muskat and others that Jimenez has been diagnosed with a bone bruise in his right shoulder and he’s expected to be held out of play for three weeks. The good news in all of this is that there doesn’t appear to be any structural damage and that bodes well for his recovery.
So far this spring, Jimenez has been tearing it up for the Cubs. He’s slashing a healthy .321/.355/.607, including two towering home runs.
We’ll certainly miss seeing him on the field as Spring Training winds down (see video below for visual evidence) but at this point, a healthy Jimenez is the top concern. This development does cloud the immediate future …Read the Rest
