The Cubs blew an eight-run lead in this game.
Thanks to Addison Russell, they won anyway. The 9-8 win began the season’s second half. The Cubs were still under .500 thanks to a poor homestand, but this win brought them to 44-45, trailing the Brewers by 5½ games in the N.L. Central.
So all’s well, right?
Four of those home runs came in the first three innings and the Cubs raced out to an 8-0 lead. But when the Orioles put up single runs in the third and fourth, this annoying thought kept running through my head: “Please don’t blow an eight-run lead.”
